In the 1950's a very dedicated man walked through the bush trail from Engadine to the current site at Loftus every Sunday to put up a tent to shelter members of the Loftus community wishing to attend a Church service there.

This led to the construction of a fibro-clad shed with a concrete floor being constructed between the large gum tree and the Eastern boundary. There were also two single pan toilets between the hall and the fence.

As the suburb grew, this hall soon became far too small to accommodate the number of people who squeezed inside and a proper Church building was built by volunteers under the supervision of Mr. Bruce Cockburn, a member of the congregation. It took just three months.

The Loftus United Church was opened on the 26th June, 1966 and was operated under the supervision of the Methodist Circuit of Sutherland. It was a community Church built by the community for the community being the only Church building in Loftus to this day.

Ministers from the Methodist Churches at Sutherland and Miranda, as well as the Presbyterian and Congregational Churches at Sutherland would regularly lead Sunday worship services at Loftus, as well as a number of lay preachers and Church members.

In 1977 The Uniting Church in Australia was formed by the merging of all Methodist Churches in Australia, together with some Congregational and some Presbyterian Churches, and some individual Churches like ours, as decided by votes within their local congregations. The members of Loftus United Church voted to join this union, thus becoming Loftus Uniting Church.
